According to reports, which seem to orignate from nowhere particularly reliable – Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Ajax youth Malen. Malen is a quick striker who has attracted interest from the likes of Barcelona – so if Arsenal have actually signed him, it seems like he could be a coup. Malen is only 16, so it will be some time before we would see him in and around the first team, but another for the future ey?

Arsenal still in talks to sign Benzema (Fichajes)

Fichajes suggest that Arsenal are still in negotiations with Real Madrid to sign Karim Benzema. We have been told by a reliable source that Madrid have told Arsenal Benzema is their’s for £60million. That’s a little high to say the least. Whilst Benzema would complete this squad, he’s not worth that. That valuation comes from Germany because Madrid want to replace Benzema with Marco Reus and they have been quoted the same amount to sign the Borussia Dortmund man. Arsenal are confident of striking a deal for Benzema as the window continues as Madrid seem desperate to land Reus, and need to fund the move by selling Benzema. I think a deal could be struck at around £45million – but we will wait and see.

Marco Amelia set to fill Szczesny void at Arsenal (Di Marzio)

Arsenal have been linked with a move for AC Milan’s 33 year old goalkeeper Marco Amelia. The story originates from these quotes from the player: “Future Arsenal? In negotiations I sign the confidentiality agreement, I can not say anything.” The Italian media have coupled that with Woijech Szczesny pending move to Roma and see Amelia as a direct replacement. What they probably don’t realise is we still have three top goalkeepers at the club. It looks like Damian Martinez and David Ospina are happy to stay and compete with Petr Cech – so I really struggle to believe this story.

The player himself says that contract talks are still ‘in the processes’ but it looks like a deal is now all but signed, with terms of £100,000 per week reportedly agreed. A new four year deal sees Walcott’s current deal extended by three years and means, should he honour it and not be sold – he will stay past his 30th birthday, 14 years at the club – time does go fast!
