3. Arturo Vidal
Arturo Vidal is currently one of the hottest properties in world football. The powerful Chilean midfielder had a world-class season with Serie A champions Juventus, scoring 18 goals and notching up 5 assists. Vidal is a versatile player, and is capable of performing both attacking and defensive duties at a very high level, having successfully filled in at centre-back for Juventus on one occasion. Having been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid, Arturo Vidal would be one of the signings of the summer, wherever he ends up.
Arsenal are in need of a holding midfielder, which is exactly the kind of role in which Vidal could excel. Yes, Vidal is by trade a goalscorer, but so were the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard before they were successfully converted into holding midfielders. Vidal is an excellent tackler, a trait which is essential for a holding midfielder. What’s more, he often wins aerial duels, despite his modest height. He plays lots of short passes, much like Mikel Arteta for Arsenal. However, unlike the veteran Spaniard, Vidal can pick a pass almost anywhere, often splitting the defence with his pinpoint through-balls, and producing many key passes. He also has more pace than Arteta, so would be able to catch up to onrushing attackers more easily than the 32-year-old.
With pace, power, passing accuracy and an eye for goal, signing Arturo Vidal would be one of the steals of the summer.
