Maxime Gonalons is the player that Arsenal were crying out for in their 2013/14 campaign.
At 25 years old, Maxime is about to enter his best years as a footballer.
The Frenchman currently plays for Olympique Lyonnais, and has been on the club’s books since the age of 10.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Gonalons is the type of player who will sit deep, sweep up loose balls, protect his back four, and start off his side’s attacks with intelligent passing. He has the technique to go with the brawn too, and is more than comfortable with the ball at his feet – whether he is controlling and passing the ball to a team-mate, or starting a driving run into the opposition’s half.
I really like Gonalons as a player, and I think he’d be a fantastic addition to our squad. His inclusion in our starting eleven would allow the likes of Ramsey and Özil to bomb forward without having to worry about tracking back to protect our back four against counter attacks, and having been at Lyon for 15 years, you can’t question his club loyalty.
It would take around £10-18 million to persuade the seven time French Champions to let go of their prized midfielder – a fee Arsenal are more than capable to paying this summer.
