It’s that time of the year again… when half the Arsenal players typically come back in pieces after a week of international duty, but as always it’s an opportunity to observe the performances of those who’ve received the call-up.
There are 13 Gunners on duty this month but there are 5 who should be closely watched in this international period.
Gabriel Paulista
The 24 year-old Brazilian defender, who signed from Villarreal in January is yet to be capped for his country. However, in the handful of promising appearances Gabriel has made for his new club, he’s earned himself his first ever international call-up for the 5 time World champions Brazil.
This comes as great news for the player and will definitely excite the Arsenal faithful too, as Brazil take on France in Paris on Friday, before tackling their South American neighbours Chile at the Emirates on Sunday. This means that Gabriel could potentially compete against his fellow Arsenal team-mates, Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez.
The Brazilian hasn’t been at Arsenal long but has already impressed at the back, with his natural aggression and neat passing, most recently against the hard fought victory at Newcastle. Now we’ll be able to see the Brazilian showcase his ability on an international level.
Nerves could play a part on his first occasion, but he’ll unquestionably be determined to use this opportunity to remain a key figure for the Brazilian national squad.
