Fabrizio Romano: Agent in Madrid for midfielder to complete deal

Arsenal are likely to have a busy final week of the transfer window as European clubs prepare for the October the 4th deadline.

According to Matteo Moretto, who works for Italian Sky Sports and the reliable Di Marzio, an agreement between Arsenal and Atletico Madrid is close for Lucas Torreira. The Uruguayan midfielder is clearly not in Mikel Arteta’s plans and Atletico appear to have a keen interest in the player. This was later backed up by the reliable Fabrizio Romano, who says that his agent is in Madrid to complete a deal.

It is well documented that Arsenal have interest in Atletico midfielder Thomas Partey. Arsenal have had plenty of interest in Torreira and the decision to deal with Atletico for him may indicate that a Partey deal could be on.

The 27-year-old Ghanaian would add a powerful presence to the Arsenal midfield, and help the club in transitions. Partey has a £45million release clause, but the nature of release clauses mean the buying club would need to pay that amount up front in order to sign him. £45million up front for Arsenal is an impossible task, so they will need to negotiation from Atletico if that deal is to happen.

It is unclear if Arsenal will be selling or loaning Torreira, but Fabrizio suggests that Arsenal are pushing for a permanent sale.
