Arsenal Tweets of the Week takes on a slightly varied format this week. I usually try to cover a few different topics but, after the pounding we took from the Potters on Saturday afternoon, the mixture of anger and frustration from Arsenal fans finally boiled over. Arsène Wenger was booed at and verbally abused by Arsenal fans at Stoke railway station after the match. This culminated with the fans fighting amongst themselves. Whether you’re in the #WengerOut or #WengerIn brigade or don’t have strong feelings either way, here are just a handful of the Tweets we saw this weekend.
Let’s start off with a Tweet containing the video which was posted on Vine. The message from this fan who retweeted the video was clear; criticism is OK, abuse is not:
BetVictor: Does #Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger deserve this from his own fans? http://t.co/aflVRkv65O maybe deserves criticism but not abuse — George Rothwell (@georgerothwell9) December 7, 2014
Daily Cannon went as far as talking about THAT video in an article for Metro and how Arsene Wenger deserves respect from Arsenal fans:
Whether you want him to stay or go, Arsene Wenger deserves respect – Me for Metro on *that* video – http://t.co/vbHaaDk4ac — Daily Cannon (@DailyCannon) December 8, 2014
Am I right in thinking that Piers Morgan was the one to start the #WengerOut campaign last season? Here he goes again. The score is wrong, if only because the fourth goal being disallowed due to Bojan scoring it whilst in an offside position:
4-0. He’s got to go. This is the end. #WengerOut — Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) December 6, 2014
However, Morgan doesn’t condone the abuse directed towards Wenger or the fighting between Arsenal fans:
Criticising Wenger & calling for him to go is OK. Openly abusing/threatening him is not. That video is awful & culprits should be ashamed. — Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) December 7, 2014
It’s also ridiculous that Arsenal fans are physically fighting each other. Makes us look ridiculous. Let’s be better than this. #afc — Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) December 7, 2014
ArsenalTV managed to catch a few of the fans having a debate outside the Britannia Stadium. Luckily it didn’t get too heated:
Wenger In or #Wenger Out?? | Fans Debate Outside Ground – #Stoke City 3 #Arsenal 2. #SCFCvAFC http://t.co/U4n9nvWGfH — ArsenalFanTV (@arsenalfantv) December 7, 2014
One fan has mixed feelings …:
The best thing for Arsene & the fans is for him to go at the earliest opportunity.Shame that is also the worst thing for the team and club — Positively Arsenal (@Blackburngeorge) December 7, 2014
… whilst others take the same stance but from a different angle of not being in either brigade:
I’m not #wengerin or #WengerOut I’m a supporter of arsenal football club n whosoever is managing the club at that time has my full support — Demmy (@_sinnersaint) December 8, 2014
Whether youre #WengerIn or #WengerOut, the man deserves to be treated with respect. Absolutely disgraceful the way those fans acted. End of. — UberArsenal™ (@UberAFC) December 8, 2014
Let’s all do the Hokey Cokey shall we? You almost feel as though the #WengerIn #WengerOut chants could be put to music:
Last few weeks for AFC fans summed up. #WengerIn #WengerOut #WengerIn #WengerOut #WengerIn #WengerOut #WengerIn — RedDevil96 (@RedDevil96Utd) December 3, 2014
So what’s your view? Have you taken a decision as to which camp you’re in? Is it #WengerIn or #WengerOut?
