Arsenal are finally looking to offload winger, Joel Campbell, after the club reportedly placed him on their transfer list.
The Costa Rican international has struggled to find a starting place in the first team since his arrival in 2011, and now Arsene Wenger is ready to cash in on the 22-year-old.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Campbell will be heading out of the Emirates this summer, after the Gunners prepared to listen to offers from a host of European clubs.
Galatassary and Benfica are just a couple of the names that have been rumoured to be interested in the young midfielders services, who could fetch a fee in the region of £5million.
And it’s the Portuguese outfit that seem to be in the front-running to secure his signing in the near future, after Campbell’s father was quoted in the Portuguese media, suggesting it could be the right move for his son;
Benfica give many opportunities to young players, they are always in the Champions League and they’ve just been crowned champions.
It is an important club, where you can play, grown and eventually return to a club like Arsenal in a stronger league.
Arsenal fans were overjoyed with the prospect of having Campbell in the side following an eye-catching World Cup last summer, but he came across too many obstacles when returning to the club.
The arrivals of both Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck provided stiff competition out on the flanks, and ultimately forced Campbell down the pecking order when it came to Wenger’s options.
A failure to capture any of the chances he was given in domestic competitions meant that Campbell spent his last few months of the season out on loan with Villarreal, scoring just once in 22 appearances.
The decision will be made on the wingers future when a club makes a serious approach during the next few weeks, despite him signing a new contract at the Gunners back in January.
