Can Vela prove his worth at Arsenal again?

Reports in Spain have emerged that there could be a return to North London for Real Sociedad forward Carlos Vela.  Vela, now 25, spent six years at the Emirates but had limited playing time under his belt. Vela spent several seasons out on loan in the Spanish second division aswell as the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion. However, he only managed to make 29 league appearances netting a mediocre 3 goals.

He was in need of rejuvenation, Spanish top flight side Real Sociedad offered to take the Mexican on loan during the 2011/12 season. His loan to Spain really paid off. During his time at Sociedad, he managed to net 12 in all competitions from just 30 appearances.

The versatile forward managed to impress then manager Philippe Montanier, now manager of Ligue 1 side Rennes, that he negotiated the permanent transfer of the Mexican. Arsenal received a fee in the region of £4 million.

During his first season as an official Real Sociedad player, Carlos Vela spent the majority of the season playing out on the right wing. Vela showed his maturity in being able to transition from a striker to a winger. He had 35 league appearances Vela bagged 14 goals and assisted 9. His form helped Real Sociedad push into the final Champions League spot in Spain for the first time in 10 years.

In the 2012/13 season Vela once again impresses. Netting 18 times in 48 appearences and providing assists for another 11 goals. The Mexican has consistently improved, season after season, and has built a deadly partnership with fellow forward Antoine Griezmann, another Sociedad player who has been courted by top European clubs

His impressive record attracted interest for a possible return to Arsenal. In an interview for (Radio Marca), Vela was quoted saying “Arsenal can come back for me at £3.3 million at any time. I look at things differently these days and I won’t close the door on Arsenal, or any team in England. I think I’m better prepared to play in another country now.”

Vela would make a good signing for Arsenal. He’s matured and has an impressive goal record for a 25-year-old. . For £3.3 million he could make a good squad player, aswell as a great bargain for Arsenal; being able to play anywhere along the front line.  He would provide a different option when the Gunners are all out of ideas. Overall, this could quite turn out to be a brilliant signing for the North London club.
