The Arsenal forward who scored the opening goal in Saturday’s FA Cup was tipped to leave this summer, with his current contract due to expire. But after showing glimpses of his best form on recovery from a year long injury, Arsenal now seem prepared to hand him another long term contract.

Walcott spoke out on his future during the clubs open top bus parade on Sunday. He said: “this is the best group of players I’ve played with, and will continue to play with”.

Walcott’s words complimenting the squad are also significant.

It shows the quality and unity we now have in the squad, add to that back to back FA Cup’s and Arsenal have a great platform to seriously challenge for more major honours next season.

Walcott is likely to sign a new deal on similar terms to his old one. The wages on his current deal are in the region of £100,000 per week. At 26, you can expect the length of a new contract to be four years, taking him right through his ‘prime’ at the club.

If a new deal is signed Walcott is likely to spend at least 14 years at the club.
