3 – Wojciech Szczesny
Although the Polish shot-stopper has a promising future with the Gunners, the competition is just too fierce and the quicker his destination is sorted the better.
Any deal that see’s Szczesny move away from Arsenal will almost definitely be part of a loan arrangement, with Wenger still keen on his former number one’s chances.
It was a difficult summer for the 26-year-old last season as he had to deal with being pushed into third of Arsenal’s goalkeeper ranks following the signing of Petr Cech.
For a man that used to be the one and only realistic choice for the gloves, Szczesny took the news well and found himself a new venture in Serie A, where he went on to be a fan favourite.
He relished the chance to be between the sticks at Roma and despite crashing out of the Champions League went on to pick up 42 appearances in all competitions.
Having reclaimed his spot in the countries first team squad at Euro 2016, early talks suggested that the Italian side were keen to bring him back to help fight for the title again.
However it appears Arsenal stalled on the loan arrangement after talks broke down over the percentage of wages Roma should pay, with the Gunners holding out for more money this time.
There’s no doubt that Szczesny’s position at Arsenal is in jeopardy, but if David Ospina was to leave in order to pick up first team football elsewhere, then suddenly everything could change.
He’s yet to return to pre-season training due to a nasty injury picked up in the opening game of the summer championships, but that shouldn’t delay a deal passing through later this month.
Any move will be a welcome one for Gunners fans who would like to see Szczesny pick up some first class experience in order to replace Cech when he eventually retires.
