August has been a pretty good month for The Gunners. The Emirates Cup saw them beat Benfica 5-1 and lose to Monaco by one goal to nil. It also saw the introduction of three new players – Calum Chambers, Mathieu Debuchy and Alexis Sánchez – all of whom made promising starts to their Arsenal careers.
Once pre-season came to an end, Arsenal started their 2014/15 campaign with a bang – humiliating Manchester City with a 3-0 win to take home the Community Shield, then grabbing three points late on against a tough Crystal Palace side in the Premier League. This month also saw us beat Beşiktaş1-0 on aggregate to go through to the Champions League group stage, come back from 2-0 to draw 2-2 against Everton, and draw 1-1 against Leicester City.
But who stood out the most in Wenger’s side? Here are my top five Arsenal players of the month:
5th place – Alexis Sánchez
Arsenal’s smiling Chilean has had a rollercoaster month. After playing extremely well against Manchester City in our Community Shield victory, Alexis struggled to compete against a resolute Crystal Palace side. His passing was off, his creativity was lacking and he failed to make an impact in a game which saw Arsenal finish with 76% of the possession.
Against Everton, Sánchez struggled to play as our central striker, and was substituted for Olivier Giroud in the second half.
However, the forward managed to rediscover his best form in our 1-0 win against Beşiktaş. His work rate and determination was vital in our 1-0 win against the Turkish side, and he scored his first goal for the club on a night which saw us make it through to the Champions League group stage for the 17th consecutive season.
Another good performance against Leicester saw the 25-year-old bag his first Premier League goal, and sealed his place at number five on this list. See the 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st by clicking below.
