When Arsene Wenger finished the season with an FA Cup under his arm he knew there wouldn’t be too much time to celebrate.
Since that final day the Gunners boss has wrapped up deals for Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac, but is yet to finalise what many see as the most important.
That’s because the future of Alexis Sanchez is no clearer than when we started the transfer talk months ago, with reports changing their mind every single day.
The recent comments from Arsenal’s Chilean haven’t exactly settled the nerves of the supporters after he suggested a move away could be on the cards this summer.
Alexis made two different points when responding to questions, one stating that he wants to win the Champions League some day, the other saying he’s still an Arsenal man.
But ahead of Arsenal’s encounter with Bayern Munich in Shanghai on Wednesday, Wenger was keen to dismiss any sort of exit for his star man.
Wenger was questioned excessively by reporter, but when asked about whether Alexis wants to force an early move to get back into Champions League football, his response was:
What I got (from those comments), he didn’t really mean that.
Don’t attach too much importance on words that are translated in an interview.
(Whether he’s spoken to Alexis since the comments) No.
Arsenal are playing hard ball over Alexis and are unwilling to sell to a Premier League rival no matter what they offer, which has since fended off Manchester City.
Recent reports from The Telegraph suggest PSG are back in for the winger, but it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will cave and let Alexis head off this summer.
