Arsenal’s Top Five Goals of the Season

Arsenal’s 2013/2014 season will go down as one of the most important in the club’s history.  Ending that much talked about trophy drought and finally paying big money for a world class player – this season could be described as “transformational” for the club.

And although many will argue – quite rightly – that the club has faired far better in seasons gone by; I personally believe that we can declare one feature of this season as “the best in the club’s recent history.”

That feature is the quality of goals scored.

From tiki-taka beauty to individual brilliance – Arsenal have treated the Gooner faithful to some of the most delicious and splendid goals the Premier League has seen.

Therefore, I have decided to make a list of my personal top five Arsenal goals of the season.  Let’s take a look!

5 – Ramsey vs Swansea (Away) [Starts at 0.59 in Video]

I chose this goal for two reasons.  It has the look of a delicate, fast counter attack/tiki-taka move, and it also features some of our player’s signature techniques.

You have the sheer tenacity of Jack Wilshere, who bulldozes his way through a tackle before driving forward into the box.  You have a lovely back heel from Olivier Giroud, which he has frequently pulled off this season, and then you have the skill and confidence of Aaron Ramsey to take that extra touch, before smashing the ball into the back of the net.

I also like the cockiness and arrogance of the move.  There was no need for Giroud to make that final pass; no need for Ramsey to skip past that last challenge – but they did, and it came off.  It’s the kind of mindset you find at the Camp Nou, and it is the kind of football fans love to see.
