Arsenal could land Manchetser City defender Matija Nastasic and Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech for a combined fee of £12million according to The Sun and the Daily Star.

As we move into the second half of November, the rumour mill is well under way. Both Cech and Nastasic would be quality additions to Arsenal, and both are struggling for game time at their current clubs – increasing the likelihood of a transfer.

I still consider Petr Cech to be one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, despite the fact he has been displaced by Thilbaut Courtois at Chelsea. Arsene Wenger has a well-documented long-term interest in Cech, and if he were to become available – I have no doubt Wenger would be interested.

Woijech Szczesny is a very talented goalkeeper, with the potential to become one of the best. Despite this, there is no doubt that Cech is the better keeper at the moment. At 32, I’m sure Cech will be looking to find first team football somewhere, and he could provide the perfect mentor for 24-year-old Szczesny. With David Ospina arriving recently, you would expect the Colombian to be loaned out if a move for Cech did materialise.

Arsenal need to add numbers to their defence, and there are few better options on the market than Manchester City’s Nastasic.

Whilst Nastasic has failed to impress Manuel Pellegrini, he certainly has ability and the potential to be a very talented defender. At 21, he already has an impressive footballing CV and has at least ten more years at the top level.

The question marks over these stories are the reliability of the sources and there are question marks as to whether Jose Mourinho would be willing to sell to a rival. In all honesty though, Arsenal are a long way away from being a rival to Chelsea at the moment.
