Why Arsenal Should Splash Out £20m On Premier League Powerful Striker

With Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud potentially out for 3 months, the Gunners need to move fast to sign a new striker. Whilst there are a few good options available, I think we should look closer to home and sign Wilfried Bony of Swansea.

Firstly we need the new striker to settle and be able to lead the line immediately. Buying a Premier League proven forward like Bony would mean there is little to no settling in time required.

What I like about Bony is his strength and ability in the air. This is certainly an attribute that we are going to be lacking in Giroud’s absence. With Sanchez leading the line for the first half against Everton we really struggled without a physical presence. Neither Podolski, Walcott, Sanchez or Campbell are dominant or strong in the air. All struggle to hold the line and play in teammates. For certain fixtures it can be good to have a different option up front, but in some games it essential to have that target man, as proven against Everton on Saturday.

The problem with Bony is the fee. He’ll probably cost at least £20million as Swansea don’t have to sell him but the player could help force through a move.

At the start of May Bony revealed he wanted a move to a bigger club:

“I want to be in a bigger club, like all young players dream.

So, for me, it is very important to keep doing well what I am doing now and just try to get the chance, and if the chance comes to me then it is up to the club to decide.

“I want to do Champions League now. I want to play more European games, so I feel like that because you feel it is good to play against the big teams. It is good to check your level.”

I think the Ivorian is a player that we could get before the window closes and I feel he would add sufficient quality to our attacking force. At 25 he has his best years in front of him and £20million, in this market, is not too much for a player of his quality.
