Arsenal are ready to pay £25million for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, according to reports.
The Gunners had tracked the Frenchman all summer with a view to signing him, but Southampton blocked the move after they sold several other first team stars. He was originally valued at around £15million, but now the media suggest his price tag is closer to £25million.
The Mirror says Wenger has identified the need for a top class defensive midfielder, after Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta has shown signs of degrading form this season. Arsenal fans will hope this is the case, as they identified this area as a key area of improvement for the team.
With the Saints now clearly much more stable than many anticipated after selling the likes of Lovren, Lallana and Lambert, perhaps they would consider selling Schneiderlin, especially if a big bid in the region of £25million were to be made.
