Arsenal ‘one step’ from completing a deal for Yannick Carrasco

Former Atletico Madrid and Belgium winger is ‘one step’ away from joining Arsenal, according to various reports including one from SPORT in Spain.

Carrasco shocked the footballing world when he left for China in February 2018.

Before that the Belgian international had spent 3 years in Atletico, where he impressed some of the top European clubs, playing 108 games, making 2078 (82%) passes and completing 235 (44%) take-ons. He created 97 chances and scored 20 goals and made 11 assists during his spell.

Before that, Carrasco spent 5 years in Monaco. During that time many Arsenal fans will remember his crucial goal in the French clubs 3-1 away win vs. Arsenal to knock them out of the Champions League.

Despite such a busy career to date, he is still only 25 and so has his best years ahead of him. Arsenal have had interest in the player for quite some time and tried to loan him in January but his club would not allow a temporary switch.

Carrasco is capable of playing as a left wing-back but is best as a more advanced left winger. In the current Chinese season he has netted 7 times in 10 games.

“The negotiations are progressing very well,” said the Belgian player. “I am aware that I am a very important player in this team,” he said of Dalian Yifang of the Chinese League earlier this week.

“From a family and personal point of view, I would like to return to Europe,” he acknowledged.

Going back to the Premier would be a new challenge for Carrasco. “It’s a more physical game, but there are also many spaces to run”.

More to come on this one as it develops.
