Arsenal midfielder pushing for summer transfer to Chelsea

The transfer window tends to create some very interesting scenarios. Fans can often be divided on their clubs transfer activity during a window.

One deal that saw most Arsenal fans unhappy was the three-year contract the club gave to Willian last summer. Most of the negativity was around the length of the contract, three years for a 32-year-old.

Nobody though, in their wildest nightmares, will have thought Willian would have struggled so much in his first season at Arsenal. The Brazilian only scored his first goal recently and that was a set piece.

Earlier this month, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano suggested that Willian was set to follow David Luiz out of The Emirates doors this summer. There is thought to be interest in him from both European and MLS clubs.

What we didn’t expect though, was for Willian to go back to Chelsea, but it seems the player is pushing for this. Whether Chelsea actually offer him a return is another question.

Incredibly though, on Tuesday afternoon, Sky Sports reported that Willian is keen on returning to Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel.

The report from Sky Sports suggests that Inter Miami are very keen on signing him but that the player prefers a return to Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal are unlikely to stand in the way of Willian departing the club. With two years remaining on his deal and scoring just once in 37 appearances this season, it is clear that the player is just not the right fit for this club.

It’s in everyone’s interest for Willian to move on. I would personally expect him to head to the MLS, but it could be quite amusing if we managed to send him back to Chelsea.

Arsenal could sign Emiliano Buendia as a replacement, with talks reportedly underway.
