Arsenal ‘make contact’ to sign top class Ramsey replacement from the Bundesliga

Arsenal are on the hunt for an Aaron Ramsey replacement with the Welshman on his way to Juventus this summer.

Someone with such a good workrate coupled with goal contribution is not easy to find, but it looks like Arsenal may have their man in Kerem Demirbay. The 25-year-old midfielder is a hard working central midfielder, with an impressive contribution to his teams goals, with 4 goals and 6 assists in the Bundesliga this season.

And the German may be available for less than his market value with a £22million release clause in his contract. According to several sources, Arsenal have made contact with Hoffenheim about a transfer this summer.

Standing at exactly 6ft tall, Demirbay is a playmaker by trade, well known for his accurate through balls and ambitious dribbling through the middle of the pitch. Arsenal certainly lack ball carriers in midfield and with Ramsey set to leave, that problem will only deepen.

It’s unlikely to be a one horse race to sign Demirbay, but Arsenal and Emery may be able to offer the player both Champions League football next season and a regular spot in the first team.

The original source for this story appears to be Bild from Germany. They say that Arsenal and Turkish clubs are looking to sign Demirbay and suggest that the fee (£22m) and wages would be ‘easily handled’ by the Gunners.

If Arsenal are only competing with Turkish clubs then you can be pretty confident that the Gunners would win that ‘race’. However with the release clause becoming more public, I’d be surprised if more interest doesn’t arise in the talented midfielder.

Some fans may want to see a more household name replace Ramsey, but the fans must be realistic when looking at summer acquisitions. With a limited transfer budget, the Gunners need to make intelligent purchases rather than being able to splash out on every occasion.
