Loan Watch: Toral Scores First Goal, Afobe Nets Again And Jenkinson Impressing

Arsenal Loan Watch – Oct. 21 – Oct. 27

Wellington Silva – UD Almeria

Wellington Silva has continued to be a regular starter for UD Almeria of late. He started in Almeria’s loss to Athletic Bilbao. He had a hard time affecting the game completing only nine passes, although having one-shot assist. He has also been called up to the Brazil under-21 squad.

Austin Lipman – Boreham Wood

Austin Lipman’s form hasn’t helped his chances. Since not scoring for six games or a month and a half, he was an unused substitute in Boreham Wood’s loss to Woking this week.

Jon Toral – Brentford

Jon Toral finally made an impact this week for Brentford. In both games against Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton, Toral came off the bench in the 84th and 81st minute, respectively. However, in the Bees’ loss to Bolton, Toral scored after just three minutes to score the west London team’s 3-1 loss.

Benik Afobe – MK Dons

Benik Afobe had his goal-scoring boots on this week scoring the game-winning goal in MK Dons’ 2-1 win over Fleetwood Town. He failed to keep his goal scoring record going in the League One’s goalless-draw against Doncaster. Afobe was a substitute in both games coming off in the 73rd minute against Fleetwood Town and 68th against Doncaster.

Ryo Miyaichi – FC Twente

Ryo Miyaichi started FC Twente’s match against Excelsior and was eventually subbed off in the 57th minute for Kasper Krusk.

Carl Jenkinson – West Ham United

Carl Jenkinson continues to get starts in the East London’s side after his great performances. In West Ham’s impressive win over Manchester City, Jenkinson didn’t contribute much going forward, but helped West Ham in their solid defensive performance. Jenkinson completed 50% of his tackles, two interceptions, one clearance; one headed clearance, and committed no fouls.

The England-international seems to have cleaned up his game and has matured as a player. I hope he gets given the chance next year and stays with the club long term if his performances continue to be mature.
