Arsenal are in the market for a striker or two this summer and the latest reports suggest the Gunners will talk to three forwards this week! Giroud confirmed the club will be recruiting another striker this summer, he told press: “I can tell you Arsenal will add a striker to the team. About me, no decision has been taken yet about extending my contract.” So now onto who? Well according to reports Arsenal are going to hold talks with these three strikers over the coming week.
1. Jackson Martinez
Jackson Martinez has often been linked to Arsenal, and the link has come around again this summer. His agent revealed the strikers plans over the next week, saying that he will soon hold talks with Arsenal and a number of other clubs. His representative Peppino Tirri told Corriere Gialloross0:
“I am waiting for Jackson Martinez’s manager, Henrique Pompeio, to arrive in Italy tonight for a series of transfer meetings we’ll have together. It’s true, he will fly in tonight because we have some encounters to evaluate and find the right proposal for Jackson Martinez. We’ve got meetings set up with numerous European clubs, as he is of interest to Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal and Valencia, but also important Italian sides. We believe Porto will happily do with a sum between €25m and €30m.”
It’s hard to see this one happening and I think it is just the agent talking up a move out of Portugal. The Gunners had a chance to sign Martinez in January and surely if they were that interested, they would have paid the little bit extra to sign him in the winter window and let him help boost their title chances.
