Arsenal have £5.4million bid turned down

Arsenal have had a bid in the region of £5.4million turned down for Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier. The 22 year-old midfielder is out of contract next season and the Gunners appear to be testing the water. Lyon have labeled the bid as ‘disrespectful’ according to a report in Le Parisien.

According to the French outlet Le Parisien, the bid included a potentially lucrative 25 per cent sell-on clause, plus the promise of a future partnership between the two clubs. Le10Sport also report of the bid from Arsenal. Lyon are thought to be holding out for a fee in excess of £10million, but may have to compromise with Grenier at the moment refusing to extend his contract, leaving Lyon stuck between a rock and a hard place in negotiations. Grenier himself holds the key to his future, with Arsenal set to come back with an improved bid next week. If the player expresses his desire to move on and pushes for the move, then Arsenal could cough up around £8million and sign the player who is only seen as a ‘luxury’ target this summer.

This one has all the compenents to be a real summer saga and drag on well into August, with a deal likely to be reached once Lyon begin to panic about losing him for free next year and are forced to accept a low offer.
