Arsenal ran out 2-0 winners against Hull on Sunday night, and Francis Coquelin was praised by the fans on Twitter.
He might have finished the game lucky to be on the pitch, but Coquelin was very good against Hull on Sunday night. His aggressive performance highlighted just how important it is for the Gunners to play with an effective defensive midfielder. With Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini the only other two defensive midfielders at the club, many Arsenal fans feel that Coquelin should be given the defensive midfield role on a permanent basis. He certainly showed his credentials in this game.
The Arsenal fans will still hope Wenger signs a new midfielder in January, but Coquelin’s performances lately have certainly shown he has the ability to play a part in the squad. Here’s how the fans reacted on Twitter:
Francis Coquelin top performance solid & aggressive. 2 ot challenges but if paddy was doing those kind of challenges #Gooners wud b swooning

Buzzing for Coquelin's flying two-footed tackle on Fabregas.

Flamini should never play another game as long as one of Arteta/Coquelin are fit.

Silly challenge from Coquelin but he has been excellent tonight. #afc

Coquelin isn't the answer, but he should play much more often than he does considering the players we start in that role are Arteta/Flamini

Coquelin has been quality

Flamini should never start another game for us, Coquelin should play understudy to Arteta.
