Arsenal are looking to sign Ipswich defender Tyrone Mings in January, as a move for Mats Hummels looks off the cards according to the Mail.
The Gunners are keen to add at least one defensive player in January and Mings’ ability to play at both centre and left back would make him a very useful addition.
21-year-old Mings’ main position is at left back, but the consensus is that his future lies in the centre of defence. He is a very physical player and recently won the Championship Player Of The Month.
Mings is regarded as one of the best young players outside of the Premier League and would be another young English player to join a growing British core at the Emirates.
Arsenal certainly need to add another defender to their squad, so signing another young talent like Mings would be a sensible addition. With Per Mertesacker’s form starting to worry the fans, some may think that Arsene Wenger needs to invest in a more established defender like Mats Hummels. There have been suggestions that Wenger is ready to sign two defenders in January.
Hummels is the captain of Borussia Dortmund who now sit bottom of the Bundesliga. He has missed the last few games due to injury, and there are suggestions that he could look to move on in January.
