David Opsina will join Arsenal tomorrow for €4million on a 5-year contract, according to RMC. The goalkeeper will become Arsenal’s third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy.
Last week we told you Arsenal were extremely keen on signing David Ospina as competition for Wojciech Szczesny next season.
The Colombian goalkeeper, 25, has been impressive in the last 12 months and is available for just £4million. For his age he has racked up some impressive experience, managing 44 caps for his country and 177 games for Nice. At 6ft, Ospina is on the short side for a goalkeeper, but is well known for his impressive reflexes and agility between the sticks.
Ospina is thought to be Arsene Wenger’s first choice and a deal looks like it would be relatively simple to conclude.
Arsene Wenger is looking to sign one experienced goalkeeper to compete with Szczesny next season, after letting Viviano return to Italy and Fabianski join Swansea on a free transfer.
The Gunners are likely to promote Damian Martinez to the first team next season and make him the third choice goalkeeper, but youngster Matt Macey remains in contention. Arsenal have enquired for a whole host of goalkeepers in the last month, with Keylor Navas impressing Wenger at the World Cup, and John Ruddy also thought to be a serious option.
