Arsenal closer to £45m-rated striker signing as negotiations with players reps ‘pretty much done’

Arsenal have a lot left to do on the pitch this season, but it appears the club have already started work on strengthening their squad ahead of the new season.

The Gunners will certainly strengthen in attack, with Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette set to see their contracts expire this summer and Aubameyang left in January, without being replaced.

‘Edu and Gabriel Jesus’ reps have been talking for a number of months to the extent that that part of the negotiations (an agreement with the player) is pretty much done and dusted.’

‘He is the profile of striker Mikel Arteta is looking to bring in’ David Ornstein, talking on The Athletic podcast.

Valued at £45m by transfermarkt, Jesus could be available at a cut-price fee, given the fact that his contract at Manchester City is set to expire in just over one year. Ornstein went on to say on the podcast that Arsenal are yet to talk to Manchester City, so the fee involved in this one is still a bit of a mystery. My general feeling would be that it could fall around the £30million mark and at that price, it would be a bit of a coup for the club.

Mikel will know the player well, from his time at Manchester City. The Gunners will need to ensure at least one of the forwards that they sign this summer, is well-adjusted to the Premier League and the manager knows exactly how to use him as that will help the new look attack hit the ground running.
