But seconds after the Gunners saw off Villa, talk immediately turned back to summer recruitment and Arteta was in the spotlight answering questions once again.

Arsenal have been hit with the news in the last 48 hours that both Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey will be out with injury for a number of weeks.

With a packed set of fixtures on the horizon as the Europa League gets underway next week, it leaves Arteta with a gaping hole in the centre of midfield.

That’s sparked a whole host of links and rumours around a number of names, with every journalist trying to get an exclusive on where the Arsenal money is going.

Speaking with the media on Elneny’s injury, Arteta said: “Bad news. Looks like he’s going to be out for quite some time. (The injury) changes things because Thomas is also injured. We are looking at options in the market and to see if the right opportunity comes up”.

We know how crazy this day can be but at the point of writing this, the two names most likely to arrive at London Colney are Palmeiras’ Danilo or Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans.

A reminder that Arsenal still have Albert Sambi Lokonga in midfield but will lose Ainsley Maitland-Niles who is set to join Southampton on a season-long loan.
