Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Makes A Final Decision On His Arsenal Future

In a week that’s seen Arsenal bid £87million for Kylian Mbappe, it hasn’t taken long for the transfer news to switch to another winger.

This time it’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is now set to snub a lucrative switch to Liverpool and commit his long-term future to the Gunners.

Having joined the club back in 2011, the 23-year-old has struggled to pick up a real run of form with Theo Walcott always higher up in the pecking order.

However, a series of injuries and shake-up to the formation in the Arsenal squad has allowed The Ox to thrive in a new position at right-wing-back.

Stepping up to fill the shoes of Hector Bellerin on that right hand side was never going to be easy, but the Englishman has taken his chance well and is now set to be rewarded with a bumper contract package.

That’s according to The Mirror’s John Cross who believes the former Southampton man will sign a new deal worth in excess of £100,000 a week.

Arsene Wenger has already opened talks with The Ox and wants to get everything wrapped up within the next few weeks – something that will put a lot of concerns to rest.

Nobody would have blamed The Ox to head off for a new challenge this summer because his treatment from the Gunners boss has been pretty poor.

However, the tough love has given him something to prove out on the pitch and he’s now one of the first choices on the team sheet for that role on the flanks.

If we’ve managed to tie up this contract situation then attention will soon turn to where Theo Walcott’s future lies – a player who can’t really adjust to this new setup.
