Arsene Wenger named 3 changes to his Arsenal side that lost to Manchester United at the weekend. Due to injuries, in came Martìnez who replaced Szczesny and Cazorla who replaced Wilshere. Wenger also named Yaya Sanogo who came in for Danny Welbeck, who was out with a knee injury. A risk, especially on such a big occasion.
Arsenal ran out 2-0 winners on what was a fantastic win for the Gunners. Yaya Sanogo put Arsenal ahead early on by tapping the ball through Weidenfeller’s legs. Alexis then doubled Arsenal’s lead around the 65th minute with an outrageous curling effort from around 25 yards out.
1. The Cazorla Show
Arsenal’s little Spaniard Santi Cazorla, dictated the game for Arsenal. Cazorla hasn’t been in his usual vibrant form this season, however this game illustrated what the Spanish magician is all about. He was calm & confident with the ball, and worked part of the team when he didn’t have the ball. He contributed two assists and that was just evidence of his superb performance against a tough opponent. A perfectly timed neat pass off to Sanogo behind the Dortmund defender, allowed the Frenchman to grab his first goal for Arsenal. Late on the second half, Cazorla passed to Sanchez who from there worked his own magic. Cazorla put in his best performance yet this season, and it was a joy to watch. On the ball, his ability is outstanding and Arsenal really blossomed in this game due to his invaluable contribution. He was named MOTM and rightly so.
