Former Premier League keeper Mark Bosnich has told TalkSport he believes Petr Cech could be allowed to join Arsenal in January.
The former Premier League goalkeeper, who played just five times for Chelsea told the radio station that Cech would be a fantastic signing for the Gunners.
“Petr Cech has been one of the greatest goalkeepers in Premier League history and he’s a winner as well,I think it would be a fantastic signing for Arsenal.” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
“From a Chelsea point of view it’s very difficult because he’s been such a great servant. He didn’t particularly do anything wrong last year to warrant losing his place at the start of this season. When a player has been that good a servant for you over all those years and, bearing in mind Chelsea’s position, it would be very difficult to stop him leaving to one of your great rivals. If the points difference was much closer between them, and Arsenal were showing signs they could go on and win the title, I definitely don’t think they would sell him. In this situation though, I think they would.”
I think he’s right. People say Chelsea won’t sell to us, but if they sold Juan Mata to Manchester United last year because he didn’t view them as an immediate threat, then I think they would be willing to sell to us. In all honesty there is literally no chance that we can challenge the Blues for the title this season. We’re already too far off the pace and aren’t showing signs of improving. Jose Mourinho doesn’t see us a threat, and he’s right to think that.
The immediate thought in everyone’s head is why didn’t Mourinho let us have Demba Ba? That’s completely different. We’d just signed Mesut Ozil, the season had barely started – we were viewed as a threat then. We aren’t now. That might be hard to read, but it’s the reality of the situation.
Whilst signing Cech is far from a necessity, I think he’d be a good signing. At 32 he could act as a mentor for Woijech Szczesny. It would leave new signing David Ospina in the dark, though. At £7million, signing Cech gives us a chance to improve our starting eleven and add another World Class player to the squad.
