Arsenal Loan Watch: Toral and Afobe Hit Top Form

 Wellington Silva – UD Almeria

Wellington Silva was used sparingly for this past week’s 2-1 loss against Barcelona. The Brazilian came on in the 85th minute and had little time to influence the game at all. Completing only one of three passes, zero of two take-ons, and one foul committed against him.

Austin Lipman – Boreham Wood

Lipman’s fine early form has failed to come back for him. In both 2-1 wins over Wealdstone and Maidenhead United, Lipman came off the bench only once in the 69th minute against the former. He hasn’t scored a goal since September 8th.

Jon Toral’s form has picked up since the beginning of the year and the Spaniard is getting more game time. Toral started on the wing in both games against Nottingham Forest and Millwall being subbed off in the 59th and 76th minute in Brentford’s respective games. The highlight this week for the Arsenal loanee was when he scored the game opener in the Bees’ 3-1 win over Forest.

Benik Afobe – MK Dons

Benik Afobe is back on a roll and is one of the highlights of this week. In MK Dons’ spectacular 4-3 win over Port Vale, Afobe scored twice, taking his season tally up to 15 goals.

Ryo Miyaichi – FC Twente

Ryo Miyaichi did not play in FC Twente’s 4-0 win over Dordrecht this week.

Carl Jenkinson – West Ham United

Thanks to Guy Demel’s injury, Carl Jenkinson has flourished in the opportunity presented to him. In West Ham’s tie against Aston Villa, he performed admirably defensively but maybe had an off game going forward. Defensively, completed all of his tackles, clearances, headed clearances (1/1, 5/5, 3/3, respectively), one interception, one for two on his aerial duels, and committed no fouls. However, on the offensive side of things most of his passes were backward (20/34), and he only completed one out of 11 crosses. Although that cross was a created chance. This is surprising considering the England international’s great crossing abilities. As said before, perhaps an off game going forward?
