Arsenal are eyeing a move for Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk, according to sources in Scotland.
The Gunners are lacking in defensive numbers, and van Dijk is a highly rated centre back. The 23 year old has been in impressive form for Celtic, and Arsenal scouts allegedly watched him in the clubs Europa League tie against Dinamo Zagreb.
Man City, Man Utd, Southampton and Sunderland have been heavily linked with van Dijk throughout the summer
With many clubs on his trail, Arsenal will have to move fast to secure the Dutch defenders signature. He’s 6ft 4, and with Koscielny and Mertesacker the only natural centre backs currently at the club – his addition would provide vital cover for the duo.
The player has previously publicly declared his commitment to the club, but at the same time has hinted he would make the move if a Champions League club were interested. With a lack of suitable options on the market, after missing out on prime target Kostas Manolas this summer, van Dijk provides Arsenal with an opportunity to sign a young but talented central defender for a fair price of just £8million.
