September was a month that saw Arsenal tarnish a promising start to the season. The month started with a fairly disappointing 2-2 draw against a Manchester City side we dominated for the majority of the game. Next came an extremely poor performance in our 2-0 loss away to Borussia Dortmund, which saw many Arsenal fans criticise numerous players on twitter. Fortunately, Arsenal did manage to respond positively with a convincing 3-0 win away to Aston Villa in the Premier League, but a 2-1 defeat to Southampton in the League Cup followed by a disappointing 1-1 draw against Spurs at the Emirates dragged us back into the depths of misery once again. Our side ended September with a fantastic 4-1 win at home against Galatasaray in the Champions League, but even that result wasn’t quite enough to plaster over a poor month for the Gunners overall.
Anyway, results aside, let’s look at the five players who impressed us the most this month:
5th place – Mesut Özil
The German playmaker continued his strong start to the season with a couple of solid performances this month – the highlight being his exciting display against Aston Villa, which saw him bag one goal and an assist.
The 25-year-old done fairly well against Man City and Tottenham, but his lacklustre performance against Dortmund has cost him a few places in this month’s list. However, finishing the month with a couple of assists against Galatasaray helped him leave a good taste our mouths. Let’s hope he can continue this fine form in October.
