Rumours have recently been resurfacing about the possibility of Khedira joining Arsenal, and whilst i’d personally love him to make the switch it still remains to be seen whether the deal is anywhere near completion. Here I review three alternatives we could sign in the holding midfield role.
1. Morgan Schneiderlein
Earlier in the summer it seemed as though Schneiderlein was going to be the man to finally solve Arsenal’s defensive midfield issues. The deal was talked about in the press for a while and all the indications were that the Frenchman was soon to be signing at the club. He had a solid season at Southampton and played well at the WC so a deal for his services seemed logical.
Since then, and for whatever reason the rumours have dried up and a move to Tottenham became more likely. However though, he has still yet to move and Southampton have declared him not for sale. He’s clearly not very happy staying at the club, and if Arsenal were still interested you’d think it’d be easy to prize him away from st.Mary’s, should a reasonable price be offered.
Schneiderlein would offer something different in the Arsenal side, he is big and strong and doesn’t shy away from a tackle. On Average, last season he made just under 3 successful tackles per game and averaged the most interceptions of any defensive midfield player in the league. This clearly shows that he is one of the most efficient players in the league for the position he plays and would be ideal for Arsenal as he can easily break up play and swiftly start an attack.
