Arsenal could sign Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas for nothing, a reliable Spanish source (El Mundo Deportivo) has revealed.
The Spanish paper do not like to speculate and have a good reliability among Madrid. They have not let the story of Iker Casillas to Arsenal go this summer, and despite David Opsina seemingly all but signed for the Gunners – Casillas continues to be linked.
They say Arsenal will not pay for the keeper, but have offered the 33-year-old a contract and that the player is pushing for Madrid to allow him to negotiate that contract with the Gunners.
Earlier this month we brought you this news:
Arsene Wenger has called Iker Casillas in an attempt to lure him to the Emirates according to El Mundo Deportivo.
The report from Spain reads: ‘Frenchman Arsène Wenger has called in the past hour Real Madrid captain and symbol of Madrid (Casillas) with the aim of trying to convince him to this summer join Arsenal. London is a city liked by Casillas and his partner, journalist Sara Carbonero.’ It is thought Arsene Wenger came close to convincing the Spaniard to joining Arsenal last summer.Â
Despite performing poorly at the World Cup this summer, Arsenal continue to be linked with the shot stopper, and there is no denying the quality and experience he would add to Arsenal’s current keeping options.
The Gunners have let Emiliano Viviano return to his parent club whilst Lukas Fabianski was released at the start of this month, despite Wenger’s best efforts to keep the Polish stopper.
Casillas has a wealth of international and top level experience, with over 150 caps for Spain. Despite being in a bad run of form, you do feel that he could help mentor Szczesny into the complete keeper, whilst at the same time providing some quality competition.
