3 Defensive Midfielders Arsenal Could Sign: But Which Is Best?

It is common knowledge amongst Arsenal fans that a quality defensive midfield player is desperately needed. There have been widespread rumours about Lars Bender and Schneiderlin throughout the summer and more recently Sami Khedira. However who is the best option for Arsenal?

1. Sami Khedira

Some have gone as far as to say Sami Khedira is a complete midfielder. He is able to combine brawn with beauty, destruction with elegance in the holding role. The German international was pivotal in the German victory in the World Cup, especially in the semi-final against Brazil. His injury in the build up to the final almost cost the Germans victory due to the loss of balance that occurs when he was absent. He learnt his trade at Stuggart before moving to Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee on the 30th July 2010, signing a contract until 2015.He has played a big role in guiding Real Madrid to UEFA Champions League: 2013–14, La Liga: 2011–12, Copa del Rey: 2010–11, 2013–14 and the Supercopa de España: 2012. The trophies accumulated at Real Madrid and Germany shows that Khedira is a born winner. Having won the FA Cup last season Khedira would be joining a winning ethos at Arsenal. Additionally Khedira would join the Germans already at the club: Ozil, Podolski and Mertesacker. This would aid the settling in period, which is always a problem with a foreign player entering the Premiership. At the age of 27 Khedira is in his prime and is exactly what Arsenal need. How attainable is he? Having just bought James Rodríguez for a substantial £70 million Real Madrid are desperate to sell in order to avoid being in breach of Fifa Fair play regulations. £25 million should therefore be enough to secure the services of a world class player and this could be the signing of the summer. Use the page numbers below to navigate through the rest of the article.
