The first half was a tight affair, resembling somewhat of a chess match. Manchester City dominated the ball for the opening 20 minutes but failed to create any real chance. Arsenal then two control and created a few opportunities but they failed to convert.
The second half continued to be tightly contested but substitute Cole Palmer curled in the opener from nothing. Arsenal probed but couldn’t create much until their own super sub, Leandro Trossard, saw his strike deflect past Ortega to level and take us to a shootout.
Arsenal made no mistake with Trossard, Saka, Odegaard and Vieira scoring from the spot, whilst De Bruyne hit the bar and Ramsdale saved from Rodri.

Here’s how I rated the players:
Aaron Ramsdale – 8
Ben White – 8
William Saliba – 8.5 – Saliba was at his best today, keeping Haaland completely quiet and controlling the defence excellently.
Gabriel Magalhaes – 8
Jurrien Timber – 9 – Playing at left-back, Timber was excellent throughout. Solid in possession and brilliant defensively, with several blocks and tackles to stop City creating anything of note from that side.
Thomas Partey – 8
Declan Rice – 8
Martin Odegaard – 8.5
Bukayo Saka – 6.5
Kai Havertz – 8 – Played as Arsenal’s furthest forward, but somewhat alongside Odegaard as both played as pressing number 10’s. He was very good at helping Arsenal retain possession, but will have wanted to do better with the second chance he had.
Gabriel Martinelli – 6 – Martinelli worked hard but wasn’t at his best on the day. Hopefully, with more minutes and momentum, he regains his best form.
Notable mentions for Emile Smith Rowe and Leandro Trossard who really helped provide some new problems for Manchester City to solve, ultimately resulting in the equaliser.
Man of the match: Jurrien Timber. Great debut in a new position
