In what could be a blockbuster transfer deal, Arsenal are edging closer to securing the services of talented midfielder Declan Rice.
The Gunners have been keen on bolstering their midfield options, and Rice has emerged as their primary target. Despite an initial bid worth approximately £90million being rejected earlier today, Arsenal have responded quickly by tabling a new offer of around £100million [widely reported]. The structure of the deal includes £20million in add-ons, with around £80million up front according to Con Harrison.
The negotiations between Arsenal and West Ham United, Rice’s current club, have reached a critical stage. While the initial bid fell short of West Ham’s valuation, the improved offer demonstrates Arsenal’s determination to bring the English international to the Emirates Stadium. The add-ons included in the deal show the clubs willingness to meet West Ham’s demands and close the gap between the clubs’ respective valuations of the player.
A crucial part of the negotiations are that West Ham are looking to maximize the fee and ensure a significant portion is paid upfront. It is believed Arsenal’s initial offer proposed paying the fee in five installments. Negotiations are ongoing, but both parties are optimistic about reaching an agreement in the near future with a deal possible this week.
The potential transfer of Rice to Arsenal would represent a significant boost to Mikel Arteta’s squad, providing a much-needed injection of quality in midfield.
There is also late interest from Manchester City. The late surge from Pep’s men has added a twist to the transfer saga, but Arsenal remains the front-runners to secure Rice’s services. The Gunners have been actively pursuing the player for several months and have reportedly made significant progress in negotiations and feel they have secured the player from a personal point of view for many months.
If Arsenal manages to secure the signing of Rice, it would undoubtedly be a statement of intent from the North London club. The spending won’t stop there either, with Kai Havertz and Timothy Castagne also deep in negotiations with the club.
