Arsenal fans were a little shocked on Wednesday night with the news that a star midfielder could seemingly be on their way out of the club.
It’s already been a bit of a saga and the longer it went on, you did start to wonder if the contract situation with Aaron Ramsey would start to go the same way as Alexis Sanchez. And it seems so.
After months of going back and forth in negotiations, it seems Arsenal have now decided not to offer Ramsey a new contract due to his excessive wage demands, beleived to be in the region of £250,000 per week. Ramsey’s performances of late certainly do not warrant wages of that amount, and some fans also agree with the club that the money could be better spent elsewhere.
Could this latest development with Ramsey explain the Gunners reported interest in Ever Banega? Whilst Banega is a fantastic player, I think we have the depth in central midfield to cope without signing a direct replacement for Ramsey should he indeed leave. Instead, I’d invest the money into a wide forward, something we are really lacking. Cristian Pavon would be my first choice.
Ramsey has of course done a lot for the club, been here for over 10 years and scored two FA Cup final winners. He will be sorely missed and won’t be short of suitors, with Juventus and Manchester United amongst those linked.
