Alex Lacazette has promised Arsenal fans he is continuing to improve behind the scenes as he looks to continue his impressive start to the season.
Sunday afternoon was the first home Premier League game of the campaign in which the Frenchman has failed to score, but he made a huge impact as Arsenal won 2-0.
Only the woodwork prevented him from scoring a goal of the month contender in the opening seconds against Brighton and he’ll now head off to represent France on international duty.
Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on his £52million signing following his summer move from Lyon and although he’s yet to get 90 minutes in an Arsenal shirt, is satisfied with how the striker has settled in to the English game.
It’s not rare to hear Lacazette’s name alongside Lukaku and Morata this early in the season as every pundit continues to compare the heavyweight signings with one another.
However, in his latest interview with SFR Sport, the 26-year-old made it pretty clear that he’s only focusing on his own game as he targets lifting the title at the end of the season:
I have not totally adapted yet, there are things that still surprise me, but I am trying.
I am watching quite a few matches to understand English football, I am watching quite a lot of my matches with Arsenal and when I look back and see what I didn’t do right, I try to learn from it. Which hopefully facilitates my progression.
The refereeing decisions (still surprise me). Sometimes I think it is a bit dangerous. But then I see that nobody is shocked, so I tell myself it must be normal.
It doesn’t surprise me that Lacazette is doing his homework because there’s a lot at stake within the Arsenal camp at the moment, with Giroud desperate to get his spot back.
Sunday afternoon showed us a real example of what Lacazette and Alexis can look like as a duo going forward and have managed to form a partnership where each of them know where the other is at all times.
What he now needs to work on is picking up some goals away from home and I think they’ll start to flow throughout the season – especially with him having a rest from the Europa League.
