Arsenal could be set to welcome back one of their most successful first-team players after he was sacked from Wolfsburg just months after being appointed.
Freddie Ljungberg was a casualty of the Bundesliga side’s managerial clear-out earlier today, as Andries Jonker was also sent to pack his bags following a disappointing start to the season.
Jonker, Arsenal’s former head coach at the academy, has picked up just four points from his first four games this campaign and failed to inspire the squad in the transfer market.
After joining Wolfsburg back in February of this year, Jonker attempted to introduce an attractive way of playing football in what was his first major managerial position since standing as a care-taker manager at Bayern Munich.

But the real focus in this story is Freddie Ljungberg, who left his ambassador role at the Gunners to go and join Jonker as an assistant manager.

Alas, things didn’t go to plan and there’s now a very high chance that Freddie will be welcomed back to London Colney to tie up with the academy and train alongside the first team.
Having a member of the Invincibles squad back in our power would be great for some of the younger members to gain advice and learn the Arsenal way.
Ljungberg’s return looks more likely than Jonker, who’s position was recently taken up by Per Mertesacker. The BFG is set to take full control at the end of the current season.
