Hector Bellerin Speaks Out About Arsenal’s Poor Transfer Strategy

Hector Bellerin has defended the way that Arsenal have acted in this summer’s transfer window after the club failed to reach deep into their pockets.

After capturing Lacazette and Kolasinac early on there was a great atmosphere around the Gunners training camp, but months of uncertainty went by without a flinch of a new arrival.

Instead, Arsene Wenger gave the green light to multiple departures including the likes of Wojciech Szczesny and Gabriel, whilst sorting loan deals for Lucas Perez and Joel Campbell.

Whilst the club managed to clear a significant cut from their wage bill, Arsenal fans were left bemused by the lack of attempt to bring in more players and compete with top Premier League clubs on a financial level.

However, in an interview with the IB Times, Hector Bellerin has moved quickly to defend his side’s transfer policy and believes it’s not just about throwing cash into the air to take a chance on new players.

Football is not just about spending money. There are clubs paying £100m and £200m on players but I do not think that is the philosophy.

The important thing is to build a good team, a good block and get results from there. Sometimes it takes time while other clubs use money.

Each club has its own resources and way of working. What matters is that on the pitch we give the maximum to prove that money is not everything.

It’s a strong pitch from Bellerin but at the end of the day, Arsenal fans were promised a £150million war-chest was available to go out and get some of Europe’s top talent.

I agree that there is a certain way of doing things but the simple fact is we needed to strengthen in midfield and defence over the summer and now I can only see those two positions being weaker.

The January transfer window looks set to be just as interesting with Alexis looking to force a move and Wenger already confirming we’ll make another move for Thomas Lemar.
