Report Card: Laurent Koscielny

Signed as a nobody back in 2010, Laurent Koscielny is just another player that will join the list of super signings that Arsene Wenger pulled off.

  • Age: 31
  • Nationality: French
  • Position: Centre-back
  • Best Attribute: Leadership
  • Biggest Weakness: Defending on his weaker side

Season Prediction:

Koscielny has done enough to prove he’s got what it takes to put the Arsenal shirt on week in, week out – and that’s something that you don’t find often these days. This season is one of his most important though and without a Premier League medal to look back on he may have wondered what might’ve been. He wants it just as much as Wenger and every Gunners fan does, and his constant source of reliability allows us to put so much faith in him.

Player Objective:

Like I say, Koscielny has enjoyed his peak years and will now be thinking about his next step after the 2017/18 campaign. I’d be surprised if he didn’t finish his career in North London but this is probably the last time he can feature in every single Premier League game without suffering from fatigue too much. He needs to take his performance to the next level this season and by that I mean turning up in each and every top six game to ensure every player around him is confident in their role.

How Much Will He Play?

You can expect to see Koscielny in almost every PL game this season because that has to be thr priority for Wenger, who has already suggested he’ll play a weakened side in the Europa League. The early stages of the FA Cup, Europa League and League Cup will give Koscielny a chance to rest as we’ve got some great players capable of filling in at the back.
