Arsenal are growing increasingly confident of finalising a £45m deal to bring Thomas Lemar to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Various reports have this evening confirmed that Arsenal are set to make another bid, including from The Telegraph and Fresh Arsenal understand a third and perhaps final bid has been made. Arsenal are quietly confident this third bid will be accepted, though the hysteria around Kylian Mbappe’s possible move to Real Madrid may complicate and slow things with Lemar further.
Arsene Wenger has already had two bids turned down for 21-year-old Lemar as he attempts to be sensible with his spending following the £52m capture of Alex Lacazette.
It’s widely reported that Monaco slapped a £80m price tag on Lemar in an attempt to ward off the Gunners, but it seems the persistence of Wenger has paid off.
Having won the league in France, Lemar is believed to be desperate to link up with Wenger in the Premier League and reports have even suggested he’s agreed personal terms.
The big question now comes down to whether or not Monaco will give in, but this is a scenario Wenger has been put in on multiple occasions over the years.
It happened with Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez last year, with both sides unwilling to sell despite their star men wanting to join Wenger’s project.
I do think we’ll get Lemar over the line but it will be one of those transfers that comes down to the final few stages of the window, meaning he could cost a bit more.
