Wolfsburg’s sporting director has suggested top Arsenal target Julian Draxler could be set to leave the club this summer, if the price is right.
The Gunners have been linked with the 22-year-old for a number of seasons, but with options in attack looking slim pressure is mounting on Wenger to bring in quality.
Whilst it isn’t the position that is desperate to be covered, Arsenal will be lagging behind with several internationals facing an extended holiday spell following the Euro’s.
Arsenal could be forced to start the season with a limited midfield, and to stop the need of relying on youngsters like Alex Iwobi it could be time to take advantage of Wolfsburg’s situation.
The German side suffered a torrid campaign last year and having cut-backs from club sponsor Volkswagen hasn’t helped tie up any deals for incoming talent.
Instead they’ve resigned to losing some of their star men, and a part of that group is Draxler who himself is ready to start fresh after failing to succeed the overwhelming expectations.
Whilst talking to the media regarding summer activity, Klaus Allofs admitted that things need to be resolved soon, but suggested there might not be enough to keep the youngster in Germany.
Clearly we have a lot to talk about.
There were a few issues that have emerged in the past.
The signs look quite obvious following Draxler’s fallout with the clubs officials, and with no new talent likely to come in it could be a while before he gets another shot in the Champions League.
European football is a massive attraction but whether or not Arsenal are willing to bail out Wolfsburg with a giant €50m offer is another question.
Both Walcott and The Ox have had a full summer to work on pre-season training and both of them will be keen to fight their way back into the spot Iwobi stole from them.
