Former Arsenal star Tony Adams will join fellow Gunners legend Thierry Henry in coaching the Under-18s squad this season.
After the academy returned to training at the beginning of the week, the news broke late on Tuesday night from reliable source Jeorge Bird and has since spread to the media.
Adams was widely regarded to turn down any approach his former side ever made to get him into coaching, but it seems the lure of Henry was something he couldn’t say no to.
It will be the first time he’s been a coach since spells at each of Wycombe, Portsmouth and Gabala, and since leaving the Azerbaijan side in 2011 Adams has worked as a pundit for BT Sport.
Having spent 22 years at Highbury as a player, Adams went on to captain a golden generation of players, and is remembered for being one of the clubs most prolific defenders.
A statue of his famous, yet rare celebration from scoring was erected in his honour outside the Emirates Stadium in 2011 to remind current supporters of his importance.
The 49-year-old achieved multiple honours under Arsene Wenger too in just a slither of his 669 appearances made in a red and white jersey, spanning back to his youth academy days.
It is believed Arsenal want to create a real balance to their next generation of players, with Adams a key addition to help work on defensive issues that have haunted the Gunners for years.
