Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has had his say on the transfer saga surrounding Jamie Vardy with a possible move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
The Gunners have already placed a bid for the England international, and due to his £20million release clause it’s now up to Vardy on whether he wants the switch.
Arsenal fans have been put through their paces over the last week, with the media reporting a different situation on the transfer with every passing day that the forward thinks about his options.
However, the 29-year-old has apparently stated he will sort out his future as soon as the Euro’s are over, a decision that Alan Smith suggests could impact his performances this summer.
Smith, who played for both Arsenal and Leicester and is now seen as a lead figure for the Gunners whilst commentating for Sky Sports, believes the decision is a no-brainer.
I know Leicester are in the Champions League but Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the country.
I will probably upset Leicester fans, but my advice is I think he should grab it (the chance to join the Gunners).
The chances are that this kind of opportunity won’t come again and you have got to make the very most of your opportunities during the course of your career.
There is still plenty of speculation surrounding the outcome of Vardy’s decision, with the press now stating the striker is 80% sure of sticking with his title-winning club.
They’re currently doing everything in their power to keep hold of their top goalscorer, having offered a record club wage of £100,000 a week to tempt him into staying.
Fresh Arsenal still believe that Vardy will make his decision whilst in France to give Arsenal some time to react whatever the result, but it will not be made public.
Vardy will have this move hanging over his head whilst playing for England and that’s not good for their second choice striker, so this mounting pressure can only tempt him to make a decision soon.
However, unlike the infamous Luis Suarez bid back in 2013, Arsenal now have options in the market if they are to miss out on Vardy, with plenty of top level names available.
