Euro 2016 Ace Responds To Rumours: ‘Joining Arsenal Would Be Exciting’

Well it is the silly season and Euro 2016 time, so why not combine both for a lovely silly Euro 2016 article? Here we look at the latest surrounding Ricardo Rodriguez and his reported transfer to Arsenal.

Rodriguez is a 23-year-old left-back who will star for Switzerland at this summers Euro 2016 tournament, alongside Arsenal’s latest signing Granit Xhaka. The pair are rumoured to be close friends and that has only increased the speculation surrounding a transfer.

Rodriguez has said he will not stay at Wolfsburg this summer and there is now a £19million release clause active in his contract for the duration of June. If Arsenal would like to, they can activate that clause and then they will be given permission to talk to the player over contract details. It looks like, should they choose to do that, the player would like to make the move, after labelling the chance to link up with Xhaka domestically as ‘exciting’.

We’d find it exciting too, Ricardo!

Fresh Arsenal understands that Kieran Gibbs has asked to leave the club in search of first-team football and that will mean that Rodriguez could be needed to provide competition for Nacho Monreal.

Monreal has been in great form, but he is already 30 and the chance to bring in one of the best young left-backs in Europe in Rodriguez may be too hard to turn down.
