Confirmed: Three Senior Players Arsenal Will Release This Summer

Arsenal are set to release three senior players at the end of the season. The Gunners have decided to let go of three experienced midfielders in the summer and that will likely mean that we will see some more reinforcements.

Mathieu Flamini is set to be released following a second three year spell at the club. Although he started the spell in good form, he has failed to convince many fans and pundits that he is the answer in the holding role.

Flamini has never been the best player during his time at Arsenal, but with seven years at Arsenal in total, the Frenchman deserves to be appreciated for his influence at the club.

But handing him a new deal would only hold us back. He’s a good player but not a great player. He’s a leader, but not an influencer. We need someone who can really control that midfield, offer energy and quality in the engine room. The 31-year-old still offers something though, with a 89.8% pass success rate this season, his calmness on the ball is obvious. He also scored a memorable brace this season, to knock Tottenham out of the League Cup.

Flamini is a character and he will be missed, perhaps off the field more than on it. As Mesut Ozil’s ‘best friend’ at the club, you hope he’ll stick around in London somewhere, perhaps a move to Queens Park Rangers..
