Arsenal are readying a double transfer raid on Real Madrid for two very talented players, if reports in Spain are to be believed.
The Gunners had been pursuing Karim Benzema during the summer, but he has become a key part of Rafa Benitez’ plans; but some players are not getting the game time they want, and perhaps deserve under their new manager.
Step up Isco. The talented creative midfielder has a long term admirer in Arsene Wenger. The need for a player of his ilk at Arsenal can be rightly questioned, but Wenger has previously stated that he will buy based on quality, not position.
With the European Championships coming up in the summer, Isco will want to play regularly to give him the best possible chance of making the team. The same applies for the other Madrid player Arsenal are being linked with this week, Jese Rodriguez.
Jese has barely played for Madrid’s first team this season, and the 22 year old will know his chances are extremely minimal of making the squad if things stay the same. Arsenal could offer him more regular football and give him the chance to realise his huge potential that he has proven at youth level and in patches for Madrid.
The Spaniard plays predominantly on the left wing, but is capable of playing as a striker. I think that it is that type of forward that Wenger might be looking for in January, especially if Theo Walcott continues to impress through the middle. Joel Campbell looks likely to leave and Lukas Podolski was not replaced in the summer, leaving Arsenal a bit short in the left forward position.
A loan move with an option to buy for Jese is being touted, I’d suggest that that’s a very good deal if Arsenal can complete it. It removes all risk with the signing.
Isco can play on the left, but he is much more of a midfielder than a forward and is most effective in Mesut Ozil’s position. He is being linked with a move for just £22million, which would represent incredible value in today’s market – so that could tempt Arsene.
